Dear Editor-

It is tragically yet another front page photo of disaster, or is it perhaps more? There
is something of the High Renaissance in the image of Linda Workman clutching the

doll she recovered from her grandmother's tornado struck home in Kentucky (Photo
A toy treasure plucked from tragedy March 6). It is the Madonna and Child as purely
and beautifully expressed as any ever produced in any era.

The compassionate pose, the striking hands, the sense and projection of mother-and-child.
It is an iconic image captured and recorded where one would least expect its discovery. It
is a striking photograph at once both remarkably elegant and sophisticatedly Mannerist. A
remarkable shot.
